Fundata is located midway between Bran and Rucar, being surrounded by Bucegi and Piatra Craiului Mountains and is considered the village at the highest altitude in the country, situated at over 1300m. Historical data show that Fundata was a tourism attraction since 1973, together with Sirnea and other villages. In the center of Fundata is located the monument dedicated to the memory of the hero Gheorghe Poenaru-Bordea, first Romanian officer fallen in the First World War. Another important personality born in Fundata, was the actress Silvia Popovici (1933-1993).
The main occupation of the locals was since ancient times, shepherding, tradition which is kept until today.
From Recanto you can hike around the village, to Fundatica, Bran, Sirnea, and Magura’s Cave.
